L-Methionine-g-lyase (METase) is a homotetrameric pyridoxal-5ยข-phosphate (PLP) enzyme with a molecular weight of 172 kd. One sub-unit of METase comprises of 398 amino acids with a molecular weight of 43 kd.

rMETase degrades methionine and other sulfur-containing amino acids, such as homocysteine and cysteine, which are major intermedials in the methylation process  and related to cancer and other diseases.
